My offering in this lovely anthology is a story entitled “If It Ain’t Broke…” It is a tale of the strange intersection of art and nano-tech and how one woman persists in the face of insurmountable bots.
And there’s merch! Buy the tote bag, the coffee mug, the T-shirt! Support your local (and vocal) writers.
This is … me (Maya Kaathryn Bohnhoff) being so very authorial at the Book View Cafe table at BayCon 2017 with a stack of the newly and completely rereleased Mer Cycle Trilogy in front of me (The Meri, Taminy, and The Crystal Rose).
High fantasy, baby. 🙂
My thanks to my dear friend and fellow wordsmith, John Vester, for taking this photo to memorialize our reunion after far too many years. I’m hopeful I’ll see John next year at Worldcon in San Jose if not sooner.
If you’re one of those people who thinks eBooks are for über-nerds, who loves to hold a physical book in their hands, smell the paper, feel the glossy cover (ooh, shiny!), and delight in words that don’t disappear when batteries run low, you’ll be pleased to know that on December 9th, you will be able to buy both Books One and Two of my Mer Cycle trilogy in trade paperback.
That’s right, fantasy fans. Taminy, Book Two of the Mer Cycle will join the Crawford Award and Locus Best First Novel nominee, The Meri, in paperback release from Book View Cafe.
Books, as I’m sure you know, make lovely Christmas presents, Hanukkah gifts and even birthday and anniversary prezzies. Just imagine the face of your fantasy-loving loved ones when they open their gift bags to find magical treasures within.
Book Three—The Crystal Rose—will release in April.
See the homey looking book with steaming red coffee cup? Doesn’t it just make you want to sit down, have cuppa and read up on the wonderful craft of writing? That book is Brewing Fine Fiction, from Book View Cafe, edited by Pati Nagle and moi and filled with advice from pro writers on the nuts, bolts and nuances of the writing craft and business.
In fact, every volume in the collection is a treasure trove of literary experience. And now, you can name your own price for the collection.
Seriously.
And what is the significance of Brewing Fine Fiction being included in Kevin J. Anderson’s NaNoWriMo book bundle? Well, only that it is a diverse collection of insightful articles on writing and related issues (business elements, conventions, etc.) published by Book View Cafe and edited by Pati Nagle and me.
It also contains several of my very own articles on writing, including one first published in Writer’s Digest magazine. Here, for your inspection is the ad copy for this legendary bundle.
She’s 5’2″, gamine, and weighs eighty-nine pounds in a soggy trench coat. The nickname “Tinkerbell” has followed her from high school. She describes herself as a Russian Orthodox Buddhist. It’s hard to imagine her riding a Harley or packing a baby blue .357 Magnum. She does both. After a disastrous engagement and washing out of Police Academy, Gina Miyoko is on walkabout in Gold Rush country, looking for clues to her own future. What are the odds she’ll end up in the middle of a mystery deep in the heart of an obsessively neat junkyard?
Gina Suza Miyoko is the protagonist of a detective series I would LOVE to launch and for which I have already got thumbnail sketches and outlines for six or seven novels. This novelette, which releases on September 15 at Book View Cafe, is Gina’s genesis story.
Come to the Book View Cafe online bookstore and meet Gina. Or purchase from Amazon.com.
My fantasy novel, THE SPIRIT GATE (new from Book View Cafe) is now available in Kindle format from Amazon.
Just sayin’ 🙂
December 16, 2014, Book View Cafe releases THE SPIRIT GATE, an alternate history / fantasy by Maya Kaathryn Bohnhoff.
What’s it about? Well, magic and faith and political intrigue and I can’t say more without spoilers. Here’s the promotional copy:
The magic of Polia is broken, the delicate connection between its male and female elements, sundered. Blame for this and other calamities both natural and political has long been laid at the feet of the White Mothers—rare adepts who can handle both male and female elements. The young widow, Kassia Telek, is one such woman. Barred from the legitimate use of her talents, she peddles herbs in the town square to feed herself and her son, Beyla … until, one day, she comes to the attention of Master Lukasha, head of Polia’s foremost center of arcane learning. Lukasha sees in the young widow a chance to mend his broken and besieged land and save Polia’s king from the necessity of a disastrous political marriage to a daughter of the Frankish Empire. It seems his dearest hopes will be realized when Kassia’s native curiosity and talent lead her to discover a trove of hidden knowledge. But Kassia gradually discovers that not everything that can be known should be known. The magic to which she holds the key, thrusts her into a battle with forces that can save Polia from its enemies or destroy everything she holds dear.
The novel will be available as an eBook with both EPUB (for iPad, Sony Reader, Nook, etc.) and MOBI (Kindle) formats. If you buy the novel from Book View Cafe, there is no digital rights management. That means you own any versions of the eBook BVC produces and can always download your book again for any of those formats.
It will also be available in the near future at Amazon, Barnes and Noble, Kobo and the iBookstore.
All the Colors of Time
A Collection of Short Fiction
by Maya Kaathryn Bohnhoff
Time travel is a dream long held by human beings. Who hasn’t had fond thoughts about showing Nicola Tesla their personal Tesla Coil or taking him for a drive in an electric car that bears his name? The devil is in the details of the technology, which is what ties together this collection of short fiction—the stories in this collection appeared in Analog science fiction magazine between 1990 and 2000.
You can download a sample EPUB here, or a sample MOBI (Kindle) here. Or you can buy the book at the Book View Cafe online bookstore.
