New this month on Curious Fictions, A Cruel and Unusual Punishment, which is a Twilight Zone-style consideration of the proposition that there are fates worse than death.

As noted in my description of the story on Curious Fictions, the tale has a checkered past. It started life as a 7500 word science fiction story but, when Shawna McCarthy rejected it for Realms of Fantasy, it ended up almost doubling in size and took on a distinct structure—the 14 Stations of the Cross from Catholic theology.

It was first published as a fantasy novelette in Interzone and later anthologized in INFINITE SPACE, INFINITE GOD, from Twilight Times and again in the “Dark” part of my WindyCon Guest of Honor collection, BIMBO ON THE COVER.
